1st day of 2nd grade!

maddie has been anticipating the start of the school year all summer.  we have had her backpack & lunch sack for over a month.  and we did get her a new dress and a couple of new pairs of shoes that were on sale in july.  but then when it came to back to school shopping she did not want to go.  i was pretty sad because i wanted to start a lunch/shopping tradition with her, but she was pretty adamant.  i guess i should be happy that she is not all about material things, she would much rather be playing or swimming.  well of course, i wanted to do something with her so i asked if she would like to get her nails done...

luved it!

morning surprise!
this year i decided to surprise her before school with balloons.  we purchased one of those small helium tanks from party city, blew up some balloons, and attached the ribbon to crayons as weights the night before. however, they were deflated by morning, so i wouldn't recommend it.  i quickly blew up a few more and then she woke up and walked out without even noticing.  she had already put on her outfit and just wanted her morning hugs & kisses and bypassed the balloons.  after she realized they were for her she was happy.  weird how things go so differently in your mind.

her idea to put up the 2 fingers!

her own pose! and check out our harajuku messenger bag
(for us gwen stephani lovers out there)!
the neighborhood kids are growing {not just taller, but in numbers}.

our first walk as a second grader.

one of her best friends is in her class again, yay!

maddie is in a 1st/2nd combo class.
she is super excited that last year's teacher wanted her again for another year.

she even has one of her neighborhood buddies in the class with her!
it was a fun first day morning.  now off to buy her some cupcakes to celebrate my big 2nd grader's first day...

i just love how she didn't notice the balloons. we moms have this perfect plan and it doesn't always turn out. she looks beautiful and happy. it's so hard to believe she is a 2nd grader!!

So adorable! I love the dress she's wearing...even if it wasn't brand new!
